Communicate Clearly

Be honest and transparent in your event listings, communications, and interactions with other users.

Prohibited Content & Behavior

The following activities are strictly prohibited on Commons and will result in immediate action.

Harassment & Hate Speech

Any form of harassment, bullying, hate speech, or discriminatory language based on race, ethnicity, religion, gender, sexual orientation, disability, or any other protected characteristic.

Violence & Threats

Threats of violence, promoting violence, or content that glorifies harm to people or animals.

Illegal Activities

Using the platform to promote, facilitate, or engage in illegal activities including drug sales, weapons trafficking, or fraud.

Spam & Scams

Spam, phishing attempts, pyramid schemes, or any deceptive practices designed to defraud users.

Impersonation

Pretending to be someone else, creating fake accounts, or misrepresenting your affiliation with organizations.

Adult Content

Sexually explicit content, nudity, or sexual services. Keep all content appropriate for a general audience.

Safety Guidelines for Events

Follow these safety tips to ensure a positive experience when attending or hosting events.

For Attendees

  • Research the event and organizer before attending
  • Meet in public, well-populated spaces
  • Tell someone where you're going
  • Trust your instincts and leave if you feel uncomfortable
  • Keep your personal information private

For Organizers

  • Provide accurate event information
  • Choose safe, appropriate venues
  • Have a safety plan and emergency contacts
  • Screen attendees when appropriate
  • Be responsive to attendee concerns

Reporting Violations

If you see content or behavior that violates our guidelines, please report it immediately. We review all reports and take appropriate action.

How to Report

You can report violations in several ways:

Click the report icon on any event, comment, or profile to flag inappropriate content.

Email our trust and safety team at safety@commons.com with details about the violation.

Emergency Situations
If you're in immediate danger, contact local law enforcement first, then report to us.

Enforcement & Appeals

How We Enforce

Our moderation team reviews all reports and takes action based on the severity of the violation:

Warning for first-time minor violations
Content removal for guideline violations
Temporary suspension for repeated violations
Permanent ban for serious or repeated violations

Appeal a Decision

If you believe an enforcement action was made in error, you can appeal:

Submit an appeal within 30 days
Provide context and evidence
Appeals are reviewed by a different team member
You'll receive a response within 5-7 business days
